A Month of Joy, Heartbreak, and Hope.
This month has been filled with both uplifting moments and heartbreaking tragedy, reflecting the highs and lows of our work here at Gap Kenya.
First, some wonderful news: thanks to generous donations from our November visitors—Vicky, Clive, Shirley, and others—we were able to install swings at the Joseph Centre. The joy these swings have brought to the children has been truly heartwarming to witness.

Sadly, the month has also brought sorrow. Two of the young girls at the Joseph Centre became pregnant, and while Amina safely gave birth to her daughter, Chantelle, the other young girl experienced the heartbreaking loss of her premature baby boy. With the support of our staff, she has bravely returned to school and is rebuilding her future.
Tragedy struck when three children connected to the Joseph Centre—Wilson (3), Abdallah (2), and Magret (3)—lost their lives in a devastating fire that destroyed their cardboard and wood home. Wilson, known for his love of dancing, and Abdallah, who cherished playing in the crèche, were regulars at the centre. Magret had just been registered and was due to start attending. The risks faced by children living in Mwakirunge are well known, but this loss is a sobering reminder of the dangers. Our hearts are broken. Rest in peace, little ones.

Amid the sorrow, we have also celebrated moments of hope:
- Dan, one of the boys in the family foster home, has passed his secondary exams with a grade B, ensuring automatic entrance to university. He is currently teaching in a school to earn some cash before he starts uni in September.

- Wycliffe, whose talent for acting is remarkable, was scouted by a film and drama company. He has signed with them to study and perform in plays across Kenya until September. We thank God for this incredible opportunity!
- Kelvin’s baptism was a moment of great joy. The boys from the foster home gathered to celebrate this special milestone in his life.

This month has shown us the depth of both grief and gratitude, but we remain steadfast in our mission to bring hope and support to the children and young people we serve. Thank you for walking this journey with us.
