A Moment That Changed Everything

Gap Kenya was founded in 2011 by Paul Woods and Gayle Woods following a visit to Mombasa.

While there, they encountered children sleeping on busy pavements—children with nowhere to go, no one to care for them, and no sense of safety or belonging. Hungry, overlooked, and vulnerable, their situation was impossible to ignore.

In that moment, everything changed. What began as a visit became a calling to take action.

Inspired by faith and the belief that every child has inherent worth and purpose, Gap Kenya was established to bring hope, protection, and opportunity to those living on the streets and on garbage dumps.

This belief remains at the heart of Gap Kenya: that no child’s current circumstances define their future.

At the same time, our work is rooted in inclusion and respect for all. We support street-connected children regardless of religion, tribe, gender, or background, and are committed to delivering our programmes with dignity, fairness, and without discrimination.

From a Moment to a Mission

What began with one encounter in Mombasa in 2011 became a commitment that would change the direction of our lives.

Paul and Gayle Woods founded Gap Ministries in response to what they saw that day. More than 15 years later, they remain actively involved in leading and developing Gap Kenya, working alongside the Kenyan team to ensure the children remain at the heart of everything we do.
