From the Streets to the Classroom

Jofrey was 17 when he first began attending the Stepping Stones Centre in Mombasa, after spending several years living on the streets. By that point, he had lost hope of ever returning to education.

Through Gap Kenya, Jofrey was given that opportunity. He joined one of our foster homes and began secondary school, completing his studies four years later.

Against expectations, Jofrey achieved strong exam results and secured a place at a teacher training college in Mombasa. After qualifying as a teacher, he began a new chapter in 2025, gaining employment at a primary school. With continued support, he also took the significant step of moving out of the foster home and into independent living.

Today, Jofrey is thriving—building a career, living independently, and embracing life with confidence and purpose.

During school holidays, he returns to support both the Stepping Stones Centre and the Joseph Centre, teaching and encouraging younger children. His journey makes him a powerful role model for those still at the beginning of their own.
